International Law Summer Stipend

The Law School’s International Programs Committee is pleased to announce that for the seventh year, it will offer summer stipends to students who work in low-paying or non-paying jobs related to international law. Up to three stipends, in amounts of up to $3,000 each, will be available.

Students must find their own jobs. Preference will be given to students who work abroad over those who work in the U.S. There will also be a strong preference for those who find international jobs working for not-for-profit organizations, or government organizations, but other forms of employment providing international experience will also be considered.

Awards will only be made to students who have confirmed job offers.

Applicants should submit the following materials:

1) A current resume
2) Employer and job description, including salary, if any
3) Amount of stipend requested
4) A personal statement (no more than 3 pages, double-spaced) covering (a) your prior experience in international law and practice; (b) details of your current interests in that area; and (c) how this job relates to or advances those interests.
5) A letter from the employer providing the following information
A. A description of the function and services of the organization.
B. A description of the duties of the student
C. An explanation of how the student will be used and supervised.
D. Information as to what compensation, if any, will be provided to the student.

Please note: Both the student and the employer will be asked to submit evaluations at the end of the work period.

Please forward these materials to Professor Stacey Platt by 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2008. (Professor Platt has mailboxes at the Law School and the ChildLaw Center.) Decisions will be announced the following week.

Please feel free to contact Professor Platt at splatt@luc.edu or (312) 915-7931 if you have any questions about this program.
